Camelford Town Council recognised early on that it needed to develop an online presence that would better serve and inform the local community. Having seen some of our earlier work for other council websites, we were tasked with developing a site that would address some immediate needs and have the scope to develop as new projects rolled out.
Each council has different needs and priorities when it comes to what they need to share online – and when. When we built this site for Camelford Town Council, we provided a basic site with the ability to share meeting minutes, contact details and news.
We made uploading meeting minutes a breeze, and also designed a custom plugin so that visitors can read the information online without having to download and open pdf files – as is usually the case on similar sites.
We spent time in the Parish, taking photographs to use on the site that would capture the atmosphere and iconic features of this famous mid-Cornwall town.
Critically, by building the site on the WordPress CMS, we provided a robust, secure, industry standard platform that provides both flexibility and scaleability.
So when the council engaged in their Neighbourhood Plan, the site was able to cope with additional content and quite significant tweaks to the navigation to reflect the new needs for information sharing with the community.
Good Councils are always looking to engage, inform and thus better represent their constituents – so when visitors want to comment on something they’ve read on the website, they can do this easily – or interact via Facebook and Twitter. We build in sophisticated features to make sure that spam is filtered out and no comment appears on the website without having been first moderated by council staff.
When the council needed feedback from the community for their neighbourhood plan we were able to incorporate a questionnaire into the site that helped them evaluate the response and plan accordingly.
SeaDog IT are both very professional and very approachable and with their support we have been able to deliver bespoke online services including the council’s website, social media platforms and surveys. Their help in delivering online Neighbourhood Plan information in particular has added real value to the Council’s work, and our online presence as the first port-of-call for increasing numbers is essential to the Council’s reputation. I have no hesitation in recommending SeaDog IT to other local councils.
